WHY HAITI

The loss of the top cover of soil year after year has made Haiti extremely vulnerable to natural disasters such as deadly hurricanes, devastating earthquakes, massive land slides and disastrous volcanoes. While thousands of hectares of top soil contribute to get eroded, the rate of poverty in Haiti goes on increasing. Poverty also triggers a string of other related problems such as improper hygiene and insufficient medical and health provisions. Being a primarily agricultural country with over 26% of its economic output coming from agriculture and farming, Haiti simply cannot afford to undergo such natural disasters.

The need of the hour is to look for alternate sources of energy that can put an immediate ban on deforestation and can help to sustain the environment.

While Haiti continues to be plagued by a host of social, political, economic and environmental problems, there still is a silver lining to the dark cloud. The country is blessed with ample sunshine and this renewable energy can be used efficiently to get the country out of its misery and improve the health and well-being of its citizens.
